The singing society “Kolo”

Šibenik's singing society “Kolo” is one of the oldest singing societies in Croatia . It was established in 1899 as the Croatian musical society “Kolo”.

The mixed choir “Kolo” has for the past 100 years been at the top of Croatian choir singing. “Kolo” is one the most awarded amateur choirs in Croatia . They have won awards on almost every festival in Croatia , and also at festivals abroad (North Wales, Germany , Poland ).

It's a musical society that is adorned with a great number of awards, and medals. “Kolo” was awarded with the eminent Šibenik award in 1968. They have released 3 records, 21 cassettes and a CD (1946, 1969, 1989 & 1998), and published 2 monographs: “Kolo- the pride of Šibenik” 1976, and “Rhapsodic Šibenik- a century of singing in Šibenik” 1989.

“Kolo” has practiced and performed more than 560 choir compositions. They have performed the work of old composers, sacral music and folk music (arranged by modern Croatian composers), and a numerous number of masterpieces by Croatian and Foreign composers of the 20 th century.

The choir has held more than 650 concerts across Europe in 144 different cities, 350 of these concerts have been held in Croatia (42 cities, and towns). If we include all of the events where the choir has performed, we can say that the mixed choir “Kolo” has performed over 1250 times.

Until 1994 the choir was one of the largest choirs in Croatia . It had 909 singers in average. Since the war the choir reduced its number of members, especially the male part, to a number of 66 singers (38 female singers, 28 male singers).
