The organ school

In the Šibenik bishopric there are 19 existing organs, 10 of them are historical, 4 are monumental and 5 are modern organs. This was the reason why the first summer organ school was organized with the cooperation of the music school “Ivan Lukačić” in 1994. The summer school assembles excellent teachers and it has a strong educational character.

 The school’s tasks are:

- To popularize organ music and organs.
- Tuition in the interpretation of Croatian and European organ literature,
from the renaissance period to the modern.
- Encouraging the creation of new musical works.
- Advancing all aspects of liturgical music.
- Expanding interest for different fields of music.
- Popularizing the historical organ and its practical use in liturgical music.
- Familiarizing young musicians with the restoration process of historical organs.

Every year more and more people are showing interest for the organ seminars in Šibenik. Each summer we draw together 10 to 15 lecturers and 40 to 60 students. The school is slowly outgrowing local and regional boundaries because of its appeasable programs and curricula, and it has become a very popular event in Croatia . Our school closely cooperates with the festival “Days of Istra organs “ (Umag), which is also a cultural artistic manifestation. For the past several years we are associated with the international association Euro-Mediterrano Culture dei Mari with its headquarters in Como . We also cooperate with Italian organists and German restorers as well as organ players from both countries. We are hoping to cooperate with other European experts and institutions

The school is financed by the County of Šibenik and the Ministry of Culture. From the beginning we have had the full support of the Šibenik tourist board and Rivijera d.d. and the Church contributes as much as it can. It's very important to mention that all funds have been spent on the restoration and conservation of the bishopric's organs, this amount has accumulated to 1.082.146, 41 kunas during the past 8 years. These investments will be necessary so that all organs could be restored due to the lack of concern of organs in socialist Yugoslavia . The school is managed by Mr. Božidar Grga and head of the council academic Anđelko Klobučar.
